Why the F5 Hack Created an 'Imminent Threat' for Thousands of Networks
Why the F5 Hack Created an'Imminent Threat' for Thousands of Networks Networking software company F5 disclosed a long-term breach of its systems this week. The fallout could be severe. Thousands of networks--many of them operated by the US government and Fortune 500 companies--face an "imminent threat" of being breached by a nation-state hacking group following the breach of a major maker of software, the federal government warned on Wednesday. F5, a Seattle-based maker of networking software, disclosed the breach on Wednesday. F5 said a "sophisticated" threat group working for an undisclosed nation-state government had surreptitiously and persistently dwelled in its network over a "long term."

Pentagon lacks counter-drone procedure leading to incursions like at Langley, experts say
New reporting about over a dozen unidentified drones that were allowed to fly over Langley Air Force Base has prompted fresh calls for change to a threat that experts say will only become more prevalent. For more than two weeks in December 2023, the mystery drones traipsed into restricted airspace over the installation, home to key national security facilities and the F-22 Raptor stealth fighters. Experts say the incident is likely one of many that U.S. authorities are underprepared to tackle in an evolving threat environment. Lack of a standard protocol for such incursions left Langley officials unsure of what to do – other than allow the 20-foot-long drones to hover near their classified facilities. The Pentagon has said little about the incidents other than to confirm they occurred after a Wall Street Journal report this month.

You won't believe how Biden-Harris team responded when drones buzzed sensitive US military bases
When a sophisticated Chinese spy balloon floated over America in early 2023, lawmakers and the public were outraged at the Biden-Harris administration's passivity and initial inclination to keep it quiet – only acknowledging the balloon after two civilian photographers forced their hand. Now, the Wall Street Journal has broken news on an even more stupendous U.S. national security breach, reporting that drones flew over a sensitive nuclear weapons testing facility for three days last October and then, two months later, flew over Langley Air Force Base in Virginia for 17 straight nights while the Biden White House, and the military officers it promoted, dawdled and argued over what to do about it. The swarms started on Dec. 7, 2023. Drones, some as large as 20 feet long, flew at night over the Air Combat Command headquarters with its squadrons of advanced F-22 Raptor fighters. The blame-casting and responsibility-shirking reveal a dangerous pattern of hesitation and risk-averse decision-making.

Introducing AfriClimate AI
Africa, with its diverse ecosystems and rich natural heritage, is not just a continent; it's a tapestry of vibrant cultures deeply intertwined with the environment. From the lush rainforests of the Congo Basin, serving as the planet's lungs, to the Sahara Desert's arid expanses, the beauty and uniqueness of Africa's ecosystems are a source of pride and integral to the African way of life. However, like all others, we as a continent face the imminent threat of climate change, which poses challenges that demand people-centric and context-aware solutions. Against this backdrop, AfriClimate AI, a grassroots community, was born with the vision to harness the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for a sustainable, prosperous, and climate-resilient Africa. The idea for AfriClimate AI emerged in September 2023 at the Deep Learning Indaba, Africa's largest annual gathering of AI researchers that took place in Accra, where we collectively realised the many opportunities for community-driven AI efforts in addressing this imminent threat.
Beware the 'botshit': why generative AI is such a real and imminent threat to the way we live André Spicer
During 2023, the shape of politics to come appeared in a video. In it, Hillary Clinton – the former Democratic party presidential candidate and secretary of state – says: "You know, people might be surprised to hear me saying this, but I actually like Ron DeSantis a lot. I'd say he's just the kind of guy this country needs." It seems odd that Clinton would warmly endorse a Republican presidential hopeful. Further investigations found the video was produced using generative artificial intelligence (AI).

U.S. says Kabul drone strike killed 10 civilians -- including children -- in 'tragic mistake'
Washington – A drone strike in Kabul last month killed as many as 10 civilians, including seven children, the U.S. military said on Friday, apologizing for what it called a "tragic mistake." The Pentagon had said the Aug. 29 strike targeted an Islamic State suicide bomber who posed an imminent threat to U.S.-led troops at the airport as they completed the last stages of their withdrawal from Afghanistan. Even as reports of civilian casualties emerged, the top U.S. general had described the attack as "righteous." The head of U.S. Central Command, Marine Corps Gen. Frank McKenzie, said that at the time he had been confident it averted an imminent threat to the forces at the airport. "Our investigation now concludes that the strike was a tragic mistake," McKenzie told reporters.

Pentagon unable to dispute civilian casualties, defends drone strike on 'imminent threat'
Retired U.S. Army General Don Bolduc joins'The Next Revolution' to discuss the chaotic scene in Afghanistan The Pentagon on Monday did not dispute that civilian casualties might have resulted from Sunday's U.S. drone strike on ISIS-K suicide bombers before they could attack the ongoing military evacuation at Kabul's airport, saying the strike was to protect against a "very imminent threat." The Taliban claimed that the airstrike killed at least 10 people, including civilians and three children. When asked about potential civilian casualties Monday, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said the military is "not in a position to dispute it right now," but noted that they are "assessing" and "investigating." "Make no mistake, no military on the face of the earth works harder to avoid civilian casualties than the United States military, and nobody wants to see innocent life taken," Kirby explained. "We take it very, very seriously."

Pelosi: House moving forward with impeachment, Trump 'imminent threat' to 'our Democracy'
Here's what you need to know as you start your day ... Pelosi: Trump'imminent threat' to'our Democracy,' lawmakers moving forward with impeachment The House will be moving forward with a resolution to impeach President Trump, said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, referring to the president in a letter to colleagues as an "imminent threat" to both the U.S. Constitution and democracy. In the letter Sunday, Pelosi said the House will act with "great solemnity" with less than two weeks remaining before Trump is set to leave office. "In protecting our Constitution and our Democracy, we will act with urgency, because this President represents an imminent threat to both," she said. Pelosi said the House will try to force Vice President Mike Pence and the Cabinet to oust Trump by invoking the 25th Amendment. On Monday, House leaders will work to swiftly pass legislation to do that.

'Doesn't really matter' if there was an imminent threat from Qassem Soleimani: Trump
WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump on Monday morning defended his decision to kill Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani, contending Soleimani posed an impending threat to the United States but also saying that was not important, given the military leader's history. "The Fake News Media and their Democrat Partners are working hard to determine whether or not the future attack by terrorist Soleimani was'imminent' or not, & was my team in agreement." "The answer to both is a strong YES., but it doesn't really matter because of his horrible past!" Since confirming that Iranian military leader Qassem Soleimani had been killed by a U.S. airstrike in Baghdad, administration officials have claimed they acted because of an imminent risk of attacks on American diplomats and service members in Iraq and throughout the region. Democrats and a few Republicans in Congress have questioned the justification of the attacks and said they have not been given adequate, detailed briefings. Last week Trump posited in an interview that Iran had been poised to attack four American embassies before Soleimani was killed in a U.S. drone strike on Jan. 3. But on Sunday U.S. Defense Secretary Mark Esper said he did not see specific evidence that Iran was planning an attack.

House votes to curb Trump's power to strike Iran without Congress OK
WASHINGTON – The U.S. House of Representatives voted Thursday to limit President Donald Trump's authority to strike Iran, a mostly symbolic move Democrats say defends Congress's constitutional powers but Republicans say endangers national security. The resolution was adopted on a 224-194 vote, as tensions in the Middle East remain high after a U.S. drone strike killed Iranian general Qassem Soleimani. Iran retaliated with missiles striking an Iraqi base used by U.S. troops late Tuesday, without casualties, leaving uncertainty about future hostilities. With Thursday's resolution, the House is saying that Congress should be consulted before the conflict with Iran escalates. The Senate now can either consider the House-passed measure or move forward with a different version introduced by Sen. Tim Kaine, a Democrat from Virginia.
